Edgar Roth '10
Edgar Roth received his B.A. in political science from UMass Dartmouth in 2010. After graduation, he immersed himself in the IT field of the health care industry. He has worked for Meditech and currently holds a business analyst position at ikaSystems.
"UMD gave me the experiences I needed to build a foundation to my career path," Roth explains. "...The diverse experience I received at the university with classes from social sciences to engineering gave me the fundamental skills I need to work on my career goals."
During high school, Roth rarely partook in extracurricular activities. "When I entered UMD freshman year, I vowed to myself to change that," he says, "I joined [the] Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and ended up being President of the organization [two times].” Roth was also a member of the planning committee for Relay for Life all four years while at UMD. Additionally, Roth and a few fraternity brothers co-founded the Veterans Appreciation Banquet benefiting the Gold Star Mothers Foundation.
Besides providing a fulfilling educational experience, Roth believes UMass Dartmouth teaches good values.
"I was an admissions ambassador (tour guide) for three of my four years and it really opened my eyes to the university in a different way. I really enjoyed giving tours of the university," says Roth. "[It] was a great experience and taught me a lot [about] working with various people in a day-to-day setting."
Currently, Roth is a board member of the Alumni Association. "As an alumni board member, I have the great opportunity to not only be involved with alumni events, but [to also] ensure they happen." He hopes to become a long-term member and stay involved with the university.
